– Put up your hand if you’ve met some cool entrepreneurs.

Put up your hand if you’ve met someone
0:06
that you never want to talk to again.
0:08
(laughing)
0:10
Thank you for your honesty!
0:11
Very nice!
0:12
And you know what?
0:13
I don’t blame you,
0:14
I don’t blame you.

0:40
– So, there’s something very, very, very
0:43
strange about our group.
0:45
Most business group, or networking, or meet-up,
0:51
most people when the meet-up is finished
0:54
they leave immediately.
0:56
Our group, sometimes we go quite late,
0:58
9:00 p.m, 9.30 p.m., people don’t leave.
1:01
10:30 p.m., 11:00 p.m.
1:04
It’s crazy, people like every single time
1:08
the staff has to kind of kick us out,
1:10
and then we go.
1:11
So there’s something very strange about our group,
1:13
and I pride that I would argue that we have
1:16
one of the, I would not say highest quality
1:19
you know, that’s kinda braggadocious
1:20
but the one of the highest quality group,
1:22
a business group, in Vancouver.
1:24
Do you know why?
1:27
Do you know why?
1:29
(audience member shouts out)
1:29
Partially.
1:31
(audience member shouts out)
1:32
No partially, but why?
1:34
– [Audience member] Referrals.
1:35
– Referrals, yes.
1:37
And, also, it’s also a lot, of the rules that we have.
1:41
Because, it’s a commitment to get here.
1:44
It’s downtown, you gotta park, right?
1:47
It’s Vancouver club, you gotta dress in business.
1:49
It’s a bitch!
1:50
(laughing)
1:52
I mean, it’s a lot of work.
1:54
But that is what is good.
1:56
It’s something you gotta think about.
1:59
Well, (sucks) do I want to attend?
2:01
Okay, I gotta drive, gotta park, and I’ve gotta dress up.
2:04
I gotta be ready, you’re gonna meet people.
2:07
It’s a commitment, can you see that?
2:09
– [Audience members] Yes.
2:09
– That’s why it’s good, it filters out the wannabees.
2:13
It filters out the people who are not committed.
2:15
So, I mean you have to be pretty committed,
2:17
pretty ambitious, and growth-orientated.
2:20
Show up, some of you after work, yes?
2:23
– [Audience members] Yes.
2:23
– Long day of work, drive here, park,
2:27
get ready, listen to three hours of Dan.
2:31
(laughing)
2:32
And then meet people, and then go home quite late
2:35
when you get home.
2:36
And for the ladies, go home,
2:37
you gotta, you know, your make-up, right?
2:39
And a shower, you don’t sleep until,
2:40
like, 12:00 a.m., or 1:00 a.m.
2:43
So, you know, my wife takes two hours, right?
2:45
So, I know how long it takes.
2:47
So, it’s a commitment.
2:48
So, anyone that’s here, I mean, I acknowledge you for it.
2:51
Because most people, I always say to people,
2:54
it’s easy, it’s somehow some of the most important things
2:57
in life, like exercise, easy to do, easy not to do.
3:04
Anybody can show up, easy not to show up.
3:08
With now over 1,500 members.
3:10
On the average we have 100 people at each meeting.
3:13
I always wonder, how come we don’t have 1,000 people?
3:17
Now that’s about right,
3:18
because sometimes life gets in the way, yes?
3:21
Other commitments, sometimes it would be like
3:23
“Ahh, you know what, I’m not interested in that topic.
3:27
“Maybe, I’ll attend next time.
3:28
“When the topic, kinda, resonates more with me.”
3:31
How many of you are here tonight
3:32
because you’re interested in getting more referrals?
3:34
Right?
3:36
And, let me give you a big tip.
3:38
That’s not actually a very good way
3:41
to decide what you want to learn.
3:44
Because, very often in business,
3:47
we have what I call a tunnel vision, this is what we see.
3:51
And very often, the problem that we think
3:53
is the problem, is not the problem.
3:56
Break it down, I’ll say it again.
3:58
Very often the things that we think
4:00
is the problem, usually, is not the problem.
4:04
So, when you are looking for solution,
4:05
you have a very fixed idea,
4:07
of, I think my problem is this!
4:10
So, I want to learn things that will help me do this!
4:14
Instead of being open-minded,
4:16
and actually, attend some things that,
4:18
well you know what, you know this workshop
4:21
would be actually more beneficial
4:23
to people who are already getting a lot of referrals.
4:26
Not people who are not getting enough.
4:27
Because it would help them refine their approach.
4:30
That’s why one of the habits I have,
4:32
I would, you know, go to a magazine rack,
4:35
and, you know, in a supermarket,
4:36
I would buy magazines that I don’t typically read.
4:41
Gardening, or you know, some mechanic magazine.
4:46
Something like totally, like just out of the, or you know,
4:50
National Enquirer, how many of you read National Enquirer?
4:55
That would, put up your hand in a minute.
4:57
(laughing)
4:58
Okay, I do, I just read through different things.
5:00
What are some of the lady magazines?
5:02
Give me some examples.
5:03
(audience member shouts)
5:04
Yep, yep, Vogue, right?
5:05
Those types of things, out of the box stuff,
5:07
because it gives me out of box ideas.
5:09
Now what you just saw is a presentation
5:12
that I did to a group of entrepreneurs.
